CAVWC Meeting 05/08/2008

1)                  Jim Ludwig gave a brief treasurer’s report stating we had a balance of $ 4,988.32  He added that we had received a new sponsor’s check from Lindy Herrell.  Brad mentioned new expenses for copies.

2)                  The Show n Shine at Letson’s Farms on Saturday April 12th was well attended.  The weather turned out to be fantastic.  We had over 23 VW’s in attendance.  Brad had painted special awards for the show and they were well accepted by all.   The special awards went so well, Brad will be making some for Bug Blast in August.

3)                  Most recently several club members went to Bug-A-Palooza in Chattanooga.  This was their tenth year for the show and very well attended.  Adam & Howie Simpson entered the show late Sunday morning and were entries number 229 & 230.  We knew of at least 12 club cars there.  Jake Kretzschmar & Jeffery Ammons brought home trophies.

4)                  On Saturday April 26th Adam Simpson had a cruise for the club.  They all went to his grandfather’s restaurant in Woodstock.  There were 15-18 cars in attendance.  It turned out to be a really great time for all who attended and everyone is looking forward to the next one.  The cruise took over the restaurant.

5)                  Upcoming events were discussed next.  We discussed the Stevenson show coming up soon, but no one could remember when  It is not listed on the South Eastern Event Planner Web Site, which a few of us had print out for the meeting.  (WRITER’S UPDATE:  The show is the weekend of June 6th-8th.  Call or write me if you want more details, 541-3988 or jimjmclean@msn.com).  We discussed the all car event coming up in Trussville.  Perhaps we can get an update from Shawn Nutting on this one soon.  The weekend of May 17th is the Charlotte Transporter show.  Brad has been working with the owners of the Argo Drive-In for us to have a Cruise to the movies again.  That weekend they will be showing Ironman.  We need to RSVP by May 12th.  Brad will be updating us on this very soon.   Our regular monthly Cruise-In is Saturday May 24 at the usual spot.  The last weekend of May is the really big show put on by Mid America Motorworks in Effingham, IL.  Jim Ludwig said he and several others are going to this show and it is a big, big event.  He knew of at least 5 cars from our club that will be attending.  That same Saturday is the YU Buggin show in Griffin, GA.  On to June, the 7th is a European car and air show at the Peachtree-Dekalb airport outside of Atlanta.  Then on the 21st is June Bugs in the field.  This is always a spectacular event and we all are indebted to our gracious hosts, the Walls for this one.  The event will be same as usual.  Bring a gift for a door prize and a side item for eating.  Strike that eating, I should say feasting.  Lastly we discussed Saturday June 22nd.  That’s when Lindy Herrell has his show in Carrolton, GA.

6)                  Bug Blast 2008.  We don’t have much time before this show will be on us.  Brad and I have talked with a lot of you folks about this event and many of you have already filled some of the jobs for the show.  If you haven’t volunteered yet, and you know who you are, please see me or Brad soon.  Please everyone be think of and working on sponsors for the show.  The deadline for adding a sponsor’s logo artwork to the T-shirts is July 1st.  Brad suggested that a sponsor doesn’t have to be just big money, but perhaps they would be interested in giving us something like a $25 gas card or other stuff to give away during the show.  Of course we will give them props during the show.  Additionally, everyone please be working on stuff for the goody bags.  Jim L said we hope to be getting some good stuff from Mid America.  We hope to be getting 4 chrome wheels for a raffle prize.  Additionally Spook from Hazel Green talked with us at Chattanooga offering a narrowed front beam for a door prize.  More on that later.  New Beginnings has given Brad a $100 off coupon for our door prizes.  We have ads in the South Eastern Event planner and in Hot VW’s.  Todd Prater is working with his employer, ROCK 99, to do a live remote broadcast from the show.  He is working with them for promo spots before the show as well  And lastly, Ed Minton of Gadsden has volunteered to sponsor more sand rail classes.  This class is attending more and more.  They were closely grouped at the Chattanooga show and took up quite a bit of parking lot.  I’m sorry folks, I didn’t write down all the new classes for this, but it boils down to 3 classes for sand rails.  One for nice new show buggies, one for mud buggies and the last one was for 4-seater buggies.

7)                  Jim Ludwig mentioned one of our great friend has had a loss.  Everyone knows Jim Connell in Leeds, well his son recently died.  All of us are deeply sadded by this event and send Jim our condolences.  Ludwig will be sending a card to Jim from all of us.

8)                  And Lastly:  We are very fortunate to have all the local vendors who help us keep our cars and hobby alive.  So a great big Thank You to all of our local shops; Jim Connell, Keith Mitchel, Ed Minton, Small Frys, Lindy Herrell and Spook.  If I left anyone out, I’m sorry.  I just can’t write as fast as I used too.  And you were mentioned at the meeting and are greatly appreciated.
